Vera Mae Greer McKenzie, 82, of New Hope, passed away Sunday at home surrounded by her family.

She worked at Huntsville Police Department as a dispatcher for many years. She also served as a crossing guard for Madison County. Vera was most fondly remembered from her time at Little Farm Grill. Mom was very independent and loved to fish. She was loved and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by husband, Earl Davis McKenzie, father, Frank Denmore Greer and mother, Gertrude Louise Greer.

Surviving are daughters, Lynda (Rodger) Baker, Rebecca Clark, Nancy Guthrie, Janice Kay (Gerry) Manley, son, Frank (Tina) McKenzie, grandchildren, Terri Brooks, Austin Lemley, Damen Guthrie, Nickolas McKenzie, Jennifer Bedsole, and Laura Guthrie, 8 great grandchildren, brother, F.D. “Bud” Greer, sisters, Louise Gray and Grace Ackers and several nieces & nephews.

Viewing and visitation with the family will be Wednesday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. A private service will be held at a later date.

  2. She was my mother-in-law for 36 years. She was always nice and kind to me, never said a hateful word to me. Be with God Mrs. McKenzie. No more pain, no more sorrow.

  3. Mrs. Vera was a very fine woman with such a sweet attitude and big heart and children just like her. A fine family. I will truly miss her and that beautiful smile.May God give yall comfort.
