Ralph “Parson” to those that knew him, was born in Guntersville, Al. He and his family lived in Portage and Hammond, Indiana for several years where he was in Boy Scouts and loved to jump and ride the trains. They moved back to Alabama in 1965 where he made many life-long friends. One was to be his future brother-in-law Richard Stapler, and his partners in crime Joel Stapler, Duck Thompson, William Earl Franks and Wayne Stapler. After graduating from New Hope High School in 1969, he returned to Hammond where he worked in the steel mills. Upon returning to Alabama he met his wife of forty-four years. They married in 1971 after he completed a tour of duty with the Army in Korea where he served as a medic in the DMZ in Seoul. Ralph worked for TVA in Scottsboro as a carpenter and electrician. In 1990 he was ordained a minister in the Church of God. He worked for the New Hope post office as a rural route carrier. Ralph enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle but a triple bypass in 2005 caused him to hang up his helmet but that didn’t keep him from working the rallies and enjoying the biker scene. He loved Civil War History . He did reenactment and living history events where he was known as the camp “Parson”.

He is preceded in death by his Grandparents William and Mary Lou (Troup) Cross; Nathan (Doc) and Johnny Kirkland; Parents Ralph Cross Sr. and Mary Sue Kirkland.
