Jo Ann Tabor Butler

jo ann butlerJo Ann Tabor Butler passed away on June 15, 2014 in Huntsville, Alabama at the age of 82. She was a resident of New Hope, Alabama and a member of the Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ. Jo Ann grew up in Owens Cross Roads and graduated from Huntsville High School. She graduated from Athens College with a Business degree and was Alumni of the Year in 1998. Jo Ann was Secretary to the President of the University of Alabama in Huntsville as well as Secretary to the President of North Alabama College of Commerce. She served on the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and won Secretary of the Year on several occasions. Jo Ann was married to John G. Butler, Sr. until his death in 1987 and served as Elder’s wife at OXR Church of Christ for many years. She was employed by Madison Academy as Secretary to the President, where she was known as “Moma Jo” to the staff, faculty and students who she loved dearly. Her love for her family and friends, her hospitality and generous heart endeared “Moma Jo” to all who knew her.
Jo Ann is survived by her children and their spouses, Laura Butler Conwell and J. Thomas Conwell, Henri Butler McDaniel and John Mark McDaniel and John G. Butler, Jr. and Sandra Cooper Butler; her grandchildren, Joseph Thomas Conwell, III, Tabor Butler Conwell, Henri McDaniel Helstowski, John Benjamin McDaniel, John Garland Butler, III, JoAnna Jean Butler and 5 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Madison Academy School, Faulkner University, Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ or Agape of North Alabama.
Visitation will be Monday June 16, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Hope Funeral Home and Funeral Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ.
