Melisa “Micki” Shelton, 44, born May 11, 1970 – died May 11, 2014

Preceded in death by brother, Wesley Michael Taylor.

Surviving are husband, Gary Shelton, sons, Joshua (Sarah) Shelton, U.S. Army, Nicholas Shelton, USMC, daughter, Sophia Shelton, brother, Gary Edward (Angela)Taylor, parents Roselynn Fortunato Taylor and Gary Lane Taylor, sister-in-law, Donna (Andy) Shelton Peters, and brother-in-law, Joseph Shelton.

Melisa was born in New Orleans, LA. Melisa was a wonderful wife, mother and daughter. She will be remembered by all as a kind, loving and generous soul, always welcomed everyone into her home with open arms, and was a mentor to many of her children’s friends. She took after her mom and grandmother and loved to cook! She was a member of the Owens Cross Roads United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Women, and the Church Choir.

A Memorial Service will be held at Owens Cross Roads UMC, Saturday at 10:30 am with Rev. Cody B. Gilliam officiating.

Special thanks to Marshall Schreeder, MD, and Leigh Ann Childress, CRNP, and everyone at the Clearview Cancer Institute for making her life better, for not giving up when others did, for your patience with her husband, and for your honesty and loving kindness to the end. You gave her the best care that medicine and love could provide.

Special thanks to the Owens Cross Roads UMC family for all of your love. You were a constant source of joy for Micki.

  1. Gary, my heart goes out to you and Micki’s children, her mother and everyone else who adored this sweet woman! May you all find comfort in knowing that Micki is in heaven and can get back to her vibrant, creativeness that I believe she is known for! You will all meet up with her again one day!
