joseph walkerJoseph Gardner Walker – March 29, 1922 – February 26, 2014

A resident of Merrill Mountain, Joseph Gardner (J.G./Joe) Walker, 91, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, February 26, 2014 with his family by  his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys Smith Walker and his son, James Gardner Walker.

He joined the Army Air Corps in July 1941 and spent his military service in the Air Transport Command of the Air Corps, which later became the United States Air Force.  Most of his service was in North Africa.  He was a staff sergeant when the war ended.

After the war, he married Minnie Bridges Walker.  They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on January 11 of this year.

He retired from Redstone Arsenal in 1972 after 25 years of service and continued to work on his cattle farm.

He was a loving husband and father, and adored grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed greatly.  He is survived by his wife, Minnie Bridges Walker, 3 children; Barbara Martin of Scottsboro, Darrell (Cindy) Walker and Rickey (Karen) Walker both of Grant, 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Troy McFarland, Jeffery Walker, Terry Walker, Brian Walker, Patrick Martin and Tony Morrison.

Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Friday at 2:00 pm with Gary Paseur officiating.

Interment will be in the Walker Cemetery.
