Frances Nell “Nellie” Moon Martin, 97, of New Hope, went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2013 at Huntsville Hospital.
She had been sick for 2 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She gave her love and touched everyone’s heart who knew her in so many ways. She was a member of the Old Bethel Church for over 50 years and served on the board until she was unable to attend church. She worked at P.R. Mallory for over 10 years and after her employment there she went to work at Huntsville Hospital as a supervisor over housekeeping until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by husband, John Henry Martin, father, Clarence Moon, mother, Frances Jane Baker Moon, daughter, Frances Louise Thorson, son-in-law, Fred Thompson, brother, Edward Oneal Moon, and brother, John Wallace Moon.
Surviving are son, John Seney (Jewell) Martin Sr. of Gurley, son, Jason Lee Martin of New Hope, daughter, Dora Mae Thompson of Athens, TN, daughter, Roberta Byrd of Huntsville, daughter, June Bearden of New Hope, sister, Rachel (Jim) Hayes of Huntsville, brother, William “Bill” Moon of Nashville, TN, brother, Thomas “Bud” (Ann) Moon of Huntsville, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren,and 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday at 2:30 pm with Rev. Leon Etheredge, Rev. Rickey Siniard officiating. Singers will be from the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be John Seney Martin, Jr., Jason Martin, Wesley Martin, Rodney Thorson, Michael Byrd and Ray Cloud. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Seney Martin, III, John Barnes and Ryan Barnes.
Interment will be in the Old Bethel Cemetery.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Ross Hunter, his nurse Kathy, Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful caring people they are, the singers at Bethel Church and to her niece and special care giver Janet Cross.
