George L. Stewart

George L. Stewart, Jr., 86, of New Hope, passed away Thursday.

Mr. Stewart was a retired executive manager with Redstone Arsenal for over 35 years Federal Service. He was instrumental in the research and development of guided missiles. He was a member of the First Baptist of New Hope where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by father, George L Stewart Sr., mother, Mary Lou Stewart, brother, Guthrie Stewart.

Surviving are his devoted and beloved wife of 65 years, Mildred H. Stewart of New Hope, son, Douglas Earl (Juanita) Stewart Sr. of Mableton, GA, grandson, Douglas Earl (Amy) Stewart Jr., granddaughter, Astasha (Shane) Baker, granddaughter, Tamera (Tom) Wilbourne, step grandson, Tim Pennington, great-grandson, Ari Baker, step great-grandson, Yang Xu, niece, Melinda and nephews, Dewayne, and special nephews and niece, Glenn and Jimmy Fisackerly, and Betty Oswalt.

Visitation will be Saturday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of New Hope, Sunday at 2:00 pm with Pastor Michael Pape, Rev Tim Verhine, Dr. Shane Baker, Tamera Wilbourne, and Juanita Stewart officiating.

The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
