Elbert B. “Ebb” Deason, Jr., 80, of Meridianville, passed away Sunday.

Ebb came from a family of teachers and educators. He spent 54 years in education in Alabama and Tennessee. He was a member of the Winston County Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid gardener. He loved football, baseball and basketball. He was a long time member of the Church of Christ and current member of State Line Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by father, Elbert Bryman Deason Sr., and mother, Edith Jones Deason.

Surviving are wife, Wadene Craig Deason of Meridianville, daughter, Amanda Jo Lofty of Huntsville, sister, Mildred Deason of Parrish, sister, Edith Short of Jasper, brother, John Pickens Deason of Parrish, numerous nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ, 3229 Old Highway 431, Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763. Services will follow at 2:00 pm with Bro. Bill Dorriety and Bro. Harold Kelly officiating.  Pallbearers will be Henry Bradley, Spooky Neal, Mike Leopard, Johnny Lee, David Thomaston, John Thomaston, Honorary Pallbearers will all of the 1958 undefeated football team from Meek High School

Interment will be in the Byrd Cemetery.

  2. I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR THIS NEWS…EBB (COACH) WAS AN INSPIRATION TO MANY. I’VE KNOWN HIM FOR A WHILE AND HE WAS ALWAYS THE KIND AND THOUGHTFULL MAN. ENJOYED SEEING HIM, WHERE EVER IT MAY HAVE BEEN. PRAYERS TO MRS. D. AND THE FAMILY.

  3. coach deason was the best man i have ever been around. coach deason coached me at gurley in 1968 and really tried to guide people in the right way. i loved coach deason for the man he was.
