Alta Louise Lipscomb Artis

September 21, 1924 – January 16, 2012

Alta Louise Lipscomb Artis, 87, of New Hope, passed away Monday.

She was preceded in death by husband, John Thomas “Tom” Artis, father, John Miller Lipscomb, mother, Bessie Smith Lipscomb, four brother, Murphy, John M. “Junior” Charles and James Lipscomb.

Alta was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church. She loved family reunions and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. To her family she was affectionately called Mawmaw Artis or Aunt “Altie”. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are daughter, Carolyn (John) Tripp of Huntsville, daughter, Nancy Morrison of New Hope, daughter, Wilma Artis of Harvest, daughter, Martha (Bill) Priven of Huntsville, son, J.T. (Sandy) Artis of Albertville, sister, Jewel (Joe) Maddox of Albertville, sister, Betty Weaver of Toney, brother, Sidney (Nancy) Lipscomb of Mesa, AR, eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday at 2:00 PM with Rev. Gary Paseur, and Rev. Neal Fossett officiating.

Interment will be in the Hayden Cemetery.

    Sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. I still remember seeing you & all your siblings walking down the gravel driveway to the school bus. Your mother must be a special person to raise such a large family! You are a testimony to her love & kindness as a mother.
