John Robert Sims

September 23, 1935 – October 6, 2011

John Robert Sims, 76, of Owens Cross Roads, passed away Thursday. Mr. Sims worked 25 years at Huntsville Manufacturing, and also served 30 years with Owens Cross Police Department.

He was preceded in death by father, James Brady Sims, mother, Bertie Lee Dunn Sims, brother, Paul Sims, sister, Shirley Watts.

Surviving are wife, Purnie M. Sims of Owens Cross Roads, AL, daughter, Angie (Mike) Perkins of Owens Cross Roads, daughter, Tammy (Donnie) Collett of Gurley, daughter, Wendy (John) Light of New Market, daughter, Tina (Jim) Stone of Gurley, grandchildren, Jonathon Perkins, Victoria Perkins, Stephanie McAllister, Josh Collett, Nick Light, Dakota Light, John Light, Jr., Eric Stone and Ryan Stone, great grandchildren, Hayden, Emma and Aiden, sister, Lucille (Roy) Meeks of New Hope, brother, Junior (Darlene) Sims of Huntsville, sister, Peggy (Leroy) Collett of Huntsville, sister, Martha (George) Bailey of New Hope, brother, Kenneth (Carolyn) Sims of Paint Rock, sister, Mae (Ralph) Mullican of Gurley, brother, Eugene (Susie) Sims of Laceys Spring, sister-in-law, Alice Sims of Owens Cross Roads, brother, Robert (Kathy) Glover of Owens Cross Roads, several nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday at 4:00 pm with Bro. Joe Ventress, and Bro. Floyd  Williams officiating.

Interment will be in the Byrd Cemetery.

  4. I am heart broken to hear of Robert’s passing. He was a very good friend to my Dad and my family. I loved Robert and have many fond memories of him.

  5. Marie and family…I am so sorry for your loss. Robert was a fixture in the OCR community. He was a good man who loved his family. Marie, you were blessed and your care and commitment to him in his final months showed your love an commirment to Robert. May God bless your family. He’s is a place free of pain and suffering.
