Roy Wilson Cobb, 90, of Owens Cross Roads, passed away Thursday after a lengthy illness. Mr. Cobb was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. His love for gospel singing carried throughout his life. He began leading singing at age 16 and continued until he became unable to attend church services. He loved singing at Barfield Health Care after becoming a resident there.
He was preceded in death by wife of 66 years, OraDell Siniard Cobb, father, Adams Alexander Cobb, mother, Katie Mae Cobb, sister, Ophelia O’Rear, and brother, Elmer Eugene Cobb.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary Jane (David) McGaha of Gurley, Barbara (Jerry) Drake of Hazel Green, Sandra (Bobby) Self of New Hope, and Lisa (Darryl) Townsend of Owens Cross Roads; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Greg and Harriet Glover, Scott and Jessica Glover, LeeAnn and Carl Pounders, Suzanne and Clay Giles, Bradford and Christy Drake, Lori and Mark Jones, Karen Self, Bobbie Lynn Tielking, and Jordan, Christopher, and Ryan Townsend; 10 great-grandchildren Shane, Ashley, Kirsten, Callie, Nathan, Colton, Carley Rae, Blake, Grant, and Ruby. Pallbearers will be Grandsons.
Visitation will be Saturday 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at Galilee Baptist Church, Sunday at 1:00 PM with Rev. Roland Lee, Rev. Jerry Meeks officiating. Mr. Cobb will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Byrd Cemetery.
