Michael Gene Thompson, 57, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Sunday.
He is preceded in death by parents Robert E. and Gladys Glover Thompson. Mr. Thompson is survived by daughters Salee Thompson Downey and husband Dustin Downey, and Amy Thompson Mann and husband Todd Mann; son John Bradley Thompson and wife Rebecca Carlisle Thompson; grandchildren Erin Lynn Sloan and Addie Ann Thompson; siblings Sandra Thompson Craft, Ina Thompson
Woody, Barry Thompson, Terri Thompson Ryan, Tim Thompson, and Jeff Thompson; special friend Brenda Damron; and was known as "Pa Mike" to Dawson, Johnny, and Hunter.
Mike was the first son of seven children and grew up helping his daddy farm. His free spirit lead him down many occupational paths from overseas office work in the Kwajalein Islands to being a restaurant owner, commercial fisherman, and owning a logging business. He enjoyed Alabama football and being by the lake and hosting fish fry’s for his family and friends. One
of Mike’s greatest joys was being with his children and grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by New Hope Funeral Home, with visitation from 5 to 8 on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home chapel at 4 p.m., Wednesday. Interment will be at Byrd Cemetery.
